Mastering the art of facial rejuvenation has been a lifelong pursuit for Dr. Gregory Mackay. Over the past decade, he has refined his craft by learning directly from some of the most respected facial aesthetic surgeons in the world, including Dr. Andrew Jacono of New York City, Dr. Dominic Bray of London, and Dr. Ben Talei of Los Angeles. This dedication to continual learning places him at the forefront of modern facial aesthetic surgery.
Dr. Mackay completed his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University and earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He then trained in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery at Emory University, working closely with leaders in the field, including the President of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the former President of the American Society of Aesthetic Surgeons.
To deepen his understanding of facial anatomy and aging, Dr. Mackay completed fellowship training in craniofacial surgery and aesthetic surgery of the facial skeleton at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was affiliated with The Center for Human Appearance. His mentor at Penn was the President of the International Society of Craniofacial Surgeons. During this time, he also cared for children with severe facial deformities, a patient population he has continued to serve for more than 25 years.
“Understanding facial rejuvenation requires knowing how facial aging occurs,” explains Dr. Mackay. “The face doesn’t just drop, it lengthens and deflates inward. A 40-year-old and a 75-year-old require fundamentally different approaches.”
Dr. Mackay is double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has held academic appointments as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at both the Mayo Clinic and Emory University School of Medicine. At the Mayo Clinic, he directed the Aesthetic and Reconstructive Fellowship Program, helping train the next generation of plastic surgeons.
His work extends internationally. Dr. Mackay has served as a visiting professor for the Indian Society of Aesthetic Surgery and the Brazilian Society of Aesthetic Surgeons. He has also participated in humanitarian surgical work in the Philippines and Nicaragua, providing life-changing reconstructive care to underserved patients.
A respected contributor to the field, Dr. Mackay has published numerous scientific articles and book chapters, including award-winning research on endoscopic minimal-incision browlifts recognized by the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He continues to lecture nationally and internationally on advanced facial techniques.
“Lifting the main facial structures in a deeper plane allows for a longer, more natural rejuvenation,” he notes. “It’s often the smallest, subtleties of facial anatomy that make the biggest difference.”
Dr. Mackay specializes in deep plane facelift surgery, refined fat grafting, and precise volume restoration to the temples, lower eyelids, cheeks, and lips—all designed to create youthful, natural results without looking overfilled. He frequently collaborates with oculoplastic surgeons to ensure the most harmonious and beautiful outcomes for the eyes.
Patients value Dr. Mackay’s meticulous technique, his warm and compassionate manner, and his commitment to continually advancing his skills. When you consult with Dr. Mackay, you can feel confident knowing you are in exceptionally capable hands.
